Obama Video – my response
a few days ago i posted a video i received from a friend of mine on my Myspace. i posted it here on the blog and got some pretty serious feedback. most [if not all] of the comments were from Obama supporters. they said it was bullshit. that his name has nothing to do with his religion. that the pin on the lapel thing was stupid. that Obama is the man. one guy even told me that the national anthem and the Star-Spangled Banner are two different songs [read RIF RAF’s comment]. wtf? haha. regardless… i never really gave u my opinion on the subject. so… here it is:
well i dismissed most of the references to his Muslim background as bigotry and nothing more. just because ur name is Hussein does not make u a radical Muslim. besides… he was raised Christian. not that that makes a difference or anything. im just saying. he’s not Muslim. so that wasn’t a very reasonable argument.
the comments about his gestures [or lack thereof] during the national anthem: i dont put my hand over my heart during the song, i dont see it written as law that u have to. but i can see how NOT doing it could hurt ur campaign with the conservative blue-collar “white” community. but aside from maybe irritating a few white ppl and die-hard patriots, he did nothing wrong.
the only issue that really frightens me was the teaching he is under at this pastors church. in the interview with Jeremiah Wright, the rev repeated mentioned this Black Liberation Theology. and it seems to me that this is a major part of wat he teaches [besides the Bible, which itself is pretty radical if u ask me]. and after doing a relatively soft search on this James Cones guy i was appalled. actually, i take that back. i’ve seen Rev Wright many times on televison [growing up with a rev. fro a step-dad kinda means subing sat. morning preachers for sat. morning cartoons], and after reading some of Cone’s theories on Liberation Theology and how it applies to the African-American community, it all made sense. i never understood how this reverend could spew hate and intolerance while teaching from the same Bible i was reading. and for Obama to willingly subject himself to that kind of indoctrination is what surprised me the most.
that portion of the video was what caught my attention. not the Muslim names or the 2 years in Madagascar [or where ever he was] or the national anthem thing… his 20 years of claiming Wright as his spiritual mentor. granted, religion and politics should remain separate. but when u’ve been presented with ideas of anti-semitism, facism, and intolerance, and remain in that environment for 20 years, i dont want u leading my country. because u either agree with these teachings or dont realize whats being taught. either way, ur not getting my support.
